Maryland legislators overturn renewable energy veto

Climate Change and EnergyLydia SullivanComment

Great news for Maryland health and clean, renewable energy: The Maryland General Assembly voted to override Governor Larry Hogan's veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act. Chesapeake PSR and other groups worked hard on this issue after Governor Hogan vetoed the bipartisan renewable energy legislation (S.B.921/H.B.1106) that passed during the 2016 session. The veto override vote was 88-51 in the house and 32-13 in the senate.

The act increases the state's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to 25 percent by 2020 — up from the previous target of 20 percent. It also raises the solar energy carve-out from two percent by 2022 to 2.5 percent by 2020.

Thank you to the health professionals who signed our letter urging override.
