Go solar with a co-op

Climate Change and EnergyLydia SullivanComment

Maryland residents who want to go solar can now buy through a co-op. Co-ops in Montgomery County, Baltimore, Howard County, Prince George’s County, western Maryland and other parts of the state allow energy consumers to band together to bulk-purchase solar power. Co-op members, in groups of dozens of individuals, get discounts and installer-neutral information on installing solar energy, while receiving customized home installation and service.

In addition, a residential pilot battery storage co-op now guides existing customers through the process of installing battery storage in their homes.

Groups now open to new members are: Baltimore, Indian Head, Howard County and Mountain Maryland. Read more about solar co-ops in Maryland.

Maryland passed community solar legislation in 2015.
